Basalt is a volcanic rock and one of the world’s most common rock types. Although it is common, it is rare to find long solid basalt columns like the ones in Blue Thumb products. The skin or crust outside the columns will have a patina ranging from beige to red to black, often containing various colours. The inside of the basalt is black and polishes up to a rich lustre. Basalt is a dense crystalline material, about 10% heavier than granite.
